Finally! Cute and Eco-friendly Shoes

When it comes to fashion, the question has been whether it’s possible to design fashion forward AND eco-friendly items. Is it possible to produce products with less waste, fewer chemicals, and more sustainable materials? The answer is yes. The San Francisco-based shoe company Rothy’s has taken on huge environmental responsibility by using a 3-D knitting process and only one material — polyester fiber sourced from 100% recycled water bottles. With this material, they are making a very chic and — yes — comfortable flat. The shoe comes in two classic silhouettes, the flat and the point, and is available in 17 shades of chic colors and patterns.
Rothy’s shoe uppers are made from recycled plastic bottles, the soles from carbon-free recyclable rubber, and the insoles from recyclable foam. The 3-D knitting process makes the shoe virtually seamless; and, since it’s knitted, the flats breathe like mesh. When you do manage to get them dirty and sweaty, you can throw them into the washing machine. Rothy’s takes even one more eco-friendlier step by accepting its old and used Rothy’s shoes at its recycling facility, which helps close the loop in making our planet a better place.
