We are just a few days away from the International Day of Zero Waste!
This is a great opportunity to celebrate not only the fact that we live in an era where we can recycle and compost, but also to take stock of what we have learned from these practices.
Did you know that humans produce more than 2.2 billion tons of garbage per year? That's a lot of waste! And, what's even worse is that only half of it is managed in controlled facilities.
This year, we're celebrating the International Day of Zero Waste by remembering that even though we're only one small part of a larger system, we have the power to make big changes! We can all make a difference by making small changes in our daily lives—like bringing your own shopping bag with you when you go grocery shopping or choosing items made from recycled materials—that will add up to something amazing. Together we can make a difference!

What if you could save $18,000 just by changing your lifestyle? It's true!
We're passionate about saving the planet and saving money, so we wanted to share some tips that have helped us save $18,000 per year.
If you're looking for an easy place to start, look at what's in your pantry right now. Are there things that you can replace with reusable versions? For example, if you use paper towels often, try using washable cloths instead.
We reduced food waste by being more mindful of what we buy and how much we eat. Reduce food waste by freezing what's left over and eating it another day. (Or composting!)
We packed lunches instead of buying them every day—it saved us hundreds of dollars each month! Bring your own reusable water bottle and snacks to work!
We rode our bikes more often. It's good exercise and will keep your carbon footprint down! If you can't ride your bike, consider taking public transportation!
When possible, we bought used items instead of new ones—You can find great furniture on Craigslist or at thrift stores, and then refinish it or repurpose it as needed.
When something broke or wore out, we repaired it instead of throwing it away. You'll save money in the long run, plus you'll be helping the environment by keeping items out of landfills!
We made homemade cleaning products (like vinegar) instead of buying them in stores—and they work just as well as the store-bought stuff does, and they're cheaper!
If you're looking to save money, make coffee at home instead of buying it at the store. It's easy, and it's cheaper. Plus, you'll have more control over what ingredients are in your coffee, which is a huge plus.

It’s nettle season!
Our family absolutely love foraging and nettle is the first treasurer in spring to forage.
We use stinging nettle in many different ways:
Nettle soup
Feed for chickens
We make fertilizer water for the garden
Tea
We make dehydrated boost powder for smoothies
What are your favorite way to use stinging nettle and what other things do you forage?
