DIY Dry Shampoo

If you’re like me and prefer to protect your hair by washing it infrequently, dry shampoo is a great way to extend the time between washes. Dry shampoo is designed to soak up oil and refresh hair without water. I love that it absorbs the dirt, oil, and grease from my scalp, leaving my hair feeling fresh without requiring a full wash.

DIY Dry Shampoo

Store-bought dry shampoos may be convenient, but they can be expensive. In addition, many dry shampoos contain toxic chemicals that harm our health and the planet.

An independent laboratory found that high levels of benzene, a known carcinogen, were present in 70% of the dry shampoo samples they tested. According to The Agency of Toxic Substance and Disease Registry, exposure to benzene may have adverse long-term and short-term effects on health.

A much better option is making your own dry shampoo! My recipe is budget-friendly, but most importantly, it’s non-toxic and chemical-free.

For blonde hair:

¼ cup arrowroot powder
2 drops orange oil
2 drops rosemary oil

Glass container with lid

Makeup brush

For darker hair:

Add 1-2 tbsp of cocoa powder

Instructions

Add all ingredients to a food processor and thoroughly mix. Store dry shampoo in a glass container with a lid. Use a makeup brush to brush dry shampoo onto your roots and blend with your fingers. You can blow-dry for a few seconds for additional blending.
