Kid’s Crafts: Finger Knitting

Nov, 27, 2020

I love Waldorf schools; I just have to put that out there. The kids learn so many fun arts and crafts that require so little which, in turn, makes the Waldorf kids very creative. All three of my kids have been into knitting  ever since they learned it in kindergarten.  If you’re lookin for something to entertain your kids during the holiday or in the car or on a rainy day finger knitting is perfect. Now all they need is yarn … lots of yarn. My kids can spend hours finger knitting. I especially love how it’s the perfect craft to keep them occupied when in the car or traveling.

I think finger knitting is great for kids as young as 3-4 years old. The best part is that it does not matter if they want to finger knit something like a scarf or if they just want to learn to knit a long snake. Whatever they make is sure to keep them busy for hours, and all it requires is leftover yarn. The skill could be taught during the winter break.

How to finger knit? Well, it’s too hard to teach in a written word; so, instead, here is a Waldorf video of a teacher using a rhyme to teach the skill:
