Chamomile is a staple herb in our home and very popular with our kids as their evening tea to help them settle down before bed. One of the most well known herbs, mostly made into a tea, chamomile has been used for centuries to treat many illnesses from anxiety to stomach aches. When my youngest had colic while I was breastfeeding, I would drink many cups of chamomile tea. This gave him the benefit of its properties and would help ease his pain. If my eyes are puffy and red from lack of sleep, I place two chamomile tea bags on them. Native to many countries throughout Europe, this wonderful herb is from a daisy-like plant, and can be used both fresh and dry.
Chamomile’s healing properties come from its flower, which contains volatile oils and flavonoids and other therapeutic substances.
