When I was a little girl my grandfather always carried a cloth handkerchief in his pocket. They were nice blue ones and he would get a brand new one that was folded neatly every morning. Nowadays handkerchiefs seem to have gone out of style and but I think it’s time to bring back the hankie because what better way to reduce waste by using a handkerchief?
They are washable and reusable, you carry around more than one, they can do a lot more than just mop up a snotty nose or two. And they look nice and feel nicer than paper to wipe your nose or tears with. Handkerchief in general are very light and take very little space so it’s easy to bring one or more in your purse or pocket for all kinds of messes besides your face: clean up a spill, clean up a cup, fork or bottle before eating or drinking from it or something to place your sandwich or goodie on in lack of a plate. The possibilities are endless so I say let’s make the humble handkerchief part of our daily routine again and make it cool to carry one.
