Let Your Wedding Dress Help A Cause

When I got married, green weddings did not yet exist, at least not in a way I have heard about. If I were to get married again, for sure my entire wedding would be a different affair, with used, recycled and green alternatives.

Take my dress, for example: it was a very beautiful dress that cost a lot and, as many wedding dresses do, is now sitting in a box in my garage. I really don’t want to just throw away something that made me so happy for one day. So what can you do with your wedding dress after the bog day is over besides selling it? I was happy to hear that my dress could actually  help the environment, support the terminally ill, or help fight sex trafficking.  Sure selling your wedding dress to a new owner is a wonderful way to spread the love and continue the story of your dress, however these days some brides choose to donate their wedding dresses. And there are great places to do that.

This organization will take your dress to help a military bride’s dream come true.

Bridal Garden

Donations to The Bridal Garden are tax deductible. Best of all, you will feel the satisfaction of knowing your donation will benefit education for New York City’s disadvantaged children.

Adorned in Grace

This store in Portland accepts wedding gown donations for resale and proceeds go towards raising awareness and prevention of sex trafficking and at-risk youth in the city. I

Brides against breast cancer

Brides Against Breast Cancer (“BABC”) was originally started out of a charity that was founded in 1997. Since then BABC has helped thousands of women buy affordable pre-owned wedding dresses and in turn has donated millions to cancer-related charities.

Of course you can simply take your wedding dress to a local thrift shop and let it bring happiness to a new bride buying an old dress.
