Give A Crap About The Planet And Use Tree-Free Toilet Paper

Feb, 02, 2018

By Fredrica Syren:
Most of us probably don’t think twice about the impact going to the toilet has on the planet. The problem is that we might take wiping our bums for granted, but toilet paper is about more than just wiping bums. Did you know that it takes 37 gallons of water just to make one roll of toilet paper? Now, if that alone is not a good reason for going the extra mile to find better options, then consider the fact that about 27,000 trees are cut down daily, most of them from virgin forests, to make toilet paper which, by the way, is very unsustainable.
Choosing the right toilet paper can help save trees, water and energy, so you’d better choose wisely.
Today, you can find toilet paper made of 100% recycled paper and is wrapped in paper instead of plastic, so all you should have to do is recycle the inner tube and wrapping paper.
I do not buy my toilet paper from the store; rather, I order it from the company “Who Gives a Crap.” Charming name, I know, but this company is great. You can buy in bulk of 48 rolls, which for a family of 5 is great. I love this company not only because I can buy in bulk, but also because it’s delivered to my door and it’s completely plastic free. The toilet paper itself is super soft and strong at the same time, which is important for little bums. The fact that the paper is made with no dyes, inks and scents makes it a winner for me.
Their toilet paper is tree-free and uses only 100% recycled paper fibers, bamboo or sugarcane in order to save water, carbon emissions and trees. Besides toilet paper, they also sell tissues and paper towels.
Furthermore, not only is the company 100% forest friendly but 50% of their profits goes to building toilets. It turns out that 2.3 billion people in the world don’t have access to toilets. This might sound like a joke, but the sad fact is that 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrheal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.
