It’s winter, and my poor skin is dry and itchy and desperately in need of some TLC. When this happens, I spend a little extra time taking care of my face with homemade and natural skin care products made with essential oils. These easy-to-make DIY skincare products are natural, nontoxic and inexpensive. They can be created with any carrier oil like argan oil, good for mature skin; olive oil or grape seed oil, good for oily skin; and my favorites, jojoba or sweet almond oil.
Here are my recipes:
Face Wash
- 14 drops Sweet Orange
- 6 drops Ylang Ylang
- 1/4 cup unscented castile soap
- 1/4 cup witch hazel
- 1 Tbsp oil of your choice
- 8 oz lotion pump bottle
Directions:
Put all ingredients into bottle, attach lotion pump, and shake well to mix. Also shake well before using. Squirt into palm of hand and cleanse skin. The solution will stay fresh for about 1-2 months.
Face Mask
This mask is healing and refreshing. The helichrysum oil in it contains anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties that help restore and heal the skin.
- 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
- ¼ ripe avocado
- 2 drops Helichrysum essential oil
Directions:
- Mash up the avocado until very smooth.
- Add all other ingredients and mix well.
- Spread the mask over your face (and neck if desired).
- Leave on for 15 minutes, then wash off with warm water.
Manuka Oil Face Toner
This is a wonderful spray. I love spraying my face every night after cleansing it. I also use it after a face mask.
Directions:
Make the toner by filling a 3-ounce spray glass bottle with witch hazel, then adding 10-15 drops of manuka oil. Shake bottle before spraying mixture on your face.
Face Oil

This is the oil I use on my face daily:
- 2 ounces sweet almond oil or jojoba oil
- 30 drops of Frankincense oil
Directions:
Combine both oils in a glass bottle with dropper or a spray bottle. Lightly shake before using.
