I grew up with the taste of homegrown tomatoes from my mom’s balcony pots and snacks harvested straight from our community garden plot. Those early memories shaped how I see the world, and now I want to give that same connection to my own kids.
Supermarkets are convenient, but they often disconnect us from what we are actually putting into our bodies. When we head out to the garden together, we aren’t just skipping the pesticides; we are learning responsibility.
I have loved watching my kids growing up in the garden, get their hands in the dirt, mastering their motor skills with a garden fork and seeing the pure pride on their faces when they harvest something they nurtured from a tiny seed.
Teaching them to grow their own food shows them that the health of the planet is in their hands. It makes them more capable, more mindful, and a lot more excited to eat their greens.

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to mean overspending or creating waste 🌸 Here are some thoughtful, zero-waste + budget-friendly ways to celebrate:
💐 Skip store-bought flowers
Pick wildflowers (where it’s allowed!) or make a paper bouquet from old magazines or newspapers.
🍰 Bake something homemade
A simple cake or her favorite treat means more than anything store-bought, and no extra packaging!
💌 Write a heartfelt letter
Use scrap paper or an old notebook page. Words last longer than gifts.
🌿 Gift a plant cutting
Propagate a plant you already have and grow something meaningful together.
🫖 Plan a cozy at-home tea, picnic or brunch
Use what you already have in your kitchen and make it special with a little effort, not money.
🎁 Wrap gifts creatively
Reuse fabric, old scarves, or newspaper instead of buying wrapping paper.
The best gifts aren’t things, they’re time, love, and intention 💛

Back to weekend food prepping 💪
Even though I switch up meals each week, I always keep a few staple dishes in the rotation. As a single mom of three teenagers, meal prep has truly been a game changer.
It helps me get healthy meals on the table fast, we eat better, and it saves us so much money. And honestly? It’s not as overwhelming as it sounds. I just spend a few hours over the weekend cooking and baking in between laughing and hanging out with my kids ❤️
Real life, real food, real balance.

POV: you’re fully dressed, shoes on, keys in hand… and you still go out and buy water?? 🤨
At this point, your reusable water bottle should be part of the outfit.
Keys? ✔️
Phone? ✔️
Wallet? ✔️
Water bottle? …hello???
Stay hydrated AND stop acting like water isn’t something you need every single day 💧😂
Normalize grabbing your bottle like you grab your keys. You wouldn’t leave the house barefoot… don’t leave it dry either.

There’s something wildly satisfying about coming home from a long stretch of work, half-expecting plant casualties… only to hear, “Don’t worry, everything’s still alive!” 🙌
Shoutout to the kiddos for keeping the veggie garden thriving while I was gone, tiny humans, big plant energy 💚 Now it’s back to watering, harvesting, and pretending I wasn’t low-key worried the whole time.

Market Mornings & Local Flavors
There is something so special about waking up in a new city and heading straight for the local farmers market.
After a few incredibly intensive work days, I finally found a pocket of time to slow down, breathe, and actually cook a few meals for myself. Of course, that meant a much-needed grocery run!
While most people look for the famous landmarks, my absolute favorite travel pastime is tucking my reusable bags into my purse and hunting for the freshest local harvests. There’s a certain magic in chatting with the growers and picking out produce that still has a bit of the morning dew on it!
Being from Sweden, I’m used to beautiful root veg and berries, but getting to taste things that simply don’t grow back home is such a treat for the soul (and the taste buds!). Nothing beats the flavor of food that’s traveled miles—not continents, to get to your plate.
Supporting local farmers, reducing plastic, and finally getting into the kitchen... honestly, what could be better?
